Michael Frost, a great thinker and writer on the topic of missions rocks my world. His ideas have shaped the way that I think about what the church is to be. He has shaped how I see God. Specifically, he has helped me move from thinking about missions, as something that we do (an activity), to mission or being missional which reconceptualizes mission to be something that we are. If missions is embraced as something that is essentially rooted in the heart of God that is expressed in the whole of our lives, it will shake us. It will shake our boxes and systems and borders. I’ve found this shift to be dangerous for my comfort. However, as I’ve begun to embrace the reality of missional living along side of Libbie and great friends, I have found beauty along side of danger the whole way. It makes the world more colorful. It makes God bigger. It makes our lives mean something more.
Here is a video of Michael Frost speaking about what it means for the church to embrace missions in this new light.
